KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Superintendent of Kalamazoo Public Schools will hold a series of virtual town hall meetings to discuss the district’s plans to move into hybrid learning after Thanksgiving.
Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri will ask for the community’s input with seven Zoom meetings with the first on October 12th.
The original back-to-school plan included a three-tiered option with one trimester of fully online learning, two days in person and three days online in a hybrid format for the second trimester, and then full in-person learning, if allowed, at the end of the school year.
The other options were online-only models, with a choice between the KPS Kalamazoo Virtual Learning Path or the KRESA Virtual & Innovative Collaborative.
“We reached out to stakeholders in June as we were preparing our back-to-school plan,” Dr. Raichoudhuri said, “Now that we are approaching the second trimester, I am again asking for stakeholder input. In addition, we will continue to study infection rates and review data from other districts who have already returned to in-person instruction. A decision about the second trimester will be announced at the KPS Board of Education meeting on Oct. 22.”
Plans could change based on COVID-19 data and input from the meetings.
