THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The rebuilding and repaving of more than 13 miles of US-131 south of Kalamazoo begins Monday.
The work is set to take place from Hoffman Road in Three Rivers to Shaver Road just north of Schoolcraft. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the $51 million dollar project will occur over a two-year period of time with a number of improvements.
Officials say work this year will be completed to just north of XY Avenue, with the remainder to Shaver Road being finished in 2024.
While traffic will be maintained in each direction throughout the project, MDOT says motorists should seek alternate routes when possible.
Also starting Monday is the repaving of four miles of M-96 from Burgess Drive in Galesburg to East G Avenue in Augusta.
MDOT officials say the $1.1 million project will result in a smoother driving surface, which in turn will increase safety and extend the life of the roadway. That work expected to be completed by Friday, May 19.
