LOWELL (WKZO) — The Lowell Police Department is getting calls from all over the country on the success of its efforts to make Craigslist sales safer. Detective Gordy Lauren says he got the idea to have buyers and sellers of items from the website meet at the police station from countless stories of assaults, robberies and murders that have happened during the meetings.
The department’s Facebook post from January 27th announcing their office as a safe haven has been reached over 21-thousand people and been shared more than 150 times. Lowell police will also drive someone to a Craigslist sale if they have an officer available and the other party doesn’t want to meet at the police station.
