KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s a central gathering spot on the Western Michigan University Campus and now it will have an official name.
Throughout the university’s time it’s been nicknamed “the Flagpoles” because that is what it was.
But WMU Vice President for Student Affairs, Diane Anderson says the name doesn’t work anymore since it’s been remodeled and the flagpoles replaced.
It has been the location for countless meetings, protests, fundraisers, rallies and a central location for alumni to get together before venturing off into other parts of the campus, but it needed a name so it can be reserved for organized activities.
The Board approved the new name at their meeting on Thursday, April 27.
