KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Edison Neighborhood Association and City of Kalamazoo is inviting residents to celebrate Arbor Day with a Tree Planting Ceremony and ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. Friday, April 28.
Organizers say the event will be held in Washington Square at 1324 Portage Street and will celebrate the planting of six street trees in Washington Square.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be tasked with planting trees during this Celebration of all things green,” said Brian LaBelle, forestry supervisor, City of Kalamazoo. “I am excited to have a part in improving the city landscape. I look forward to not only seeing these trees grow but all the other trees that I have had the honor to be a part of planting throughout Kalamazoo.”
Officials went onto say that the effort helps complete the Portage Street Reconstruction project which includes upgrades to water main and storm sewer, repairing sidewalks and ADA upgrades like sidewalk ramps and improved crosswalks, and lighting upgrades. Other amenities have been added include parallel parking and the addition of bike lanes.
Friday’s event is free and open to the public.
