KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says he will not be pursuing charges against any of the 16-patient care workers at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital following allegations that they abused a patient by forcibly restraining him.
The 19-specific incidents occurred because doctors did not want staff using belts and straps to control patient Michael Rowley, who was reportedly violent.
They had to do it manually. Healthcare workers say several suffered injuries and required treatment dealing with Rowley, who was also injured.
Public Safety conducted the investigation, and was seeking battery charges.
Prosecutor Jeff Getting notified Public Safety that there is insufficient evidence to hold any of the state employees criminally liable, nor did he find any criminal intent on the part of any of the employees during what took place at the facility on Oakland Drive.
