LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 17, 2023) – Those who want to know about how to get their record straight have an opportunity a week from Friday.
Western Michigan University’s Cooley Law School will host an expungement fair town hall at its Lansing campus (300 S. Capital Ave.) on April 28th. From 12 Noon to 5 PM, state Attorney General Dana Nessel, along with state lawmakers, legal experts and Capital Area Michigan Works staffers, will explain the process for those who have a criminal past to get that record cleared in order to gain greater opportunities for housing and employment.
Sarah Matwiejczyk, the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Ottawa County, assigned to the 58th District Court in Holland, explained in an appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” last week how the “Clean Slate” law passed three years ago has helped make the expungement process smoother.
Online registration for “Michigan’s New Expungement Policies – Know Your Rights” event runs through this Friday, with a link here.
