LANSING, MI — Former state House Speaker Rick Johnson is facing federal charges with two lobbyists and a medical marijuana business owner for a bribery scheme. Johnson is accused of accepting bribes while he was the chairman of the state’s medical marijuana licensing board from 2017 to 2019.
U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten says all four have signed plea agreements and admitted their guilt to the charges. Totten says Johnson accepted over 100-thousand-dollars in bribes.
Johnson is expected to be sentenced for his guilty plea later this moneth. As part of the plea deal the FBI has agreed to not investigate the former speaker for any other alleged crimes.
