ALLEGAN COUNTY (WKZO) — A 15-month old girl is being quarantined with a rash and some of the symptoms of the measles in Allegan county as a precaution.
Health officials think the child probably has some other virus, they are taking an extra measure of caution just in case, because the child has not been vaccinated.
Dr. Richard Tooker, the county’s Medical Examiner says measles is such a contagious disease that isolating the child is the first step to keeping it from spreading.
They say until they know for sure, it just makes sense from a public health perspective to keep her isolated.
They say she is the only unvaccinated member of her family but Dr. Tooker says he can’t figure out how she could have come in contact with anyone who might have the virus. Right now they are all accounted for.
The only confirmed case of the Measles this year was tested and verified in a man in Oakland County and his infection ran its course last month.
It may take a week to get the test results back.
