OTTAWA COUNTY (WKZO) Court documents suggest that Matthew Krueger was suicidal on the day he allegedly set a family property in Oceana County on fire, and then carried out an unarmed attack on the Coast Guard Station in Grand Haven.
He has now been ordered to undergo a psychiatric exam, which will put his prosecution on hold until the results are complete.
Krueger reportedly told a detective that he hoped setting the fire at the place owned by his father in Oceana County would kill him until he realized his dog was there too and escorted the pooch to safety.
A few hours later he was calling 9-1-1 in Ottawa County, claiming he was headed to the Grand Haven Coast Guard Station with a bomb in his truck.
It’s not clear if he also hoped that would be a suicide mission and he would be met by a hail of gunfire. .
He smashed through the gates and attempted to assault personnel and was quickly subdued.
