KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — A suspected serial arsonist has been charged with multiple counts of burning real property for torching over half a dozen parked vehicles.
Investigators say he may be responsible for as many as seven vehicle fires dating back to late summer of last year, including a UPS vehicle late last month.
32-year-old Anthony Joseph Packard was ordered held on $50-thousand dollars bond, and that as a condition of bond, he undergo a psychiatric exam.
There had already been five fires and the Sheriff’s Department expected the arsonist to try it again.
When a church van was reported on fire, they flooded the area with officers looking for suspects.
They say when Packard lit a second fire in a vehicle at a Mobile Home park on 9th Street, they were able to track him down.
