(Reuters) – A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld a ruling to allow Wisconsin election officials to count absentee ballots that arrive up to six days after the Nov. 3 presidential election.
The ruling, issued by three judges who were all appointed by Republican presidents, upheld a Sept. 21 court order that called for extending the ballot receipt deadline. The earlier ruling had been challenged by lawyers representing the Republican Party.
Tuesday’s ruling would allow the state to accept ballots through Nov. 9 as long as they were mailed and postmarked on or before Election Day.
