WASHINGTON (WKZO-AM/FM) – Although the COVID 19 outbreak happened three years ago, its effects have lingered in many different ways.
A report released earlier this month by the US Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee detailed continued shortages of critical medications, looking at various factors that have led to this situation. Suburban Detroit Democrat Gary Peters, chairman of that committee, held a hearing on the matter last week, saying that two reasons have emerged as the leading causes of drug shortages in this country.
In addition to health concerns due to the drug shortage, Peters believes that it could also be a national security issue due to an over reliance on foreign-made medications. The second-term lawmaker is hoping his report and call to action will better prepare the nation for the future.
