KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — On Monday around 4:00 p.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety located a stolen vehicle traveling in the 1400 block of Alamo Avenue. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle and investigate, the vehicle fled.
Officers pursued the vehicle but elected to stop the pursuit due to various safety concerns. Soon after, the vehicle became stuck in congested traffic. The two occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot in the 200 block of West Michigan Avenue.
One of the suspects was tackled and arrested after a short foot pursuit. The second suspect was able to scale the side of a building and attempted to hide on a business’s rooftop.
Officers promptly surrounded the business, preventing any path of escape. The building was laddered with the assistance of fire personnel and the second suspect surrendered without further incident.
Both suspects will be lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail where they await arraignment on multiple criminal charges.
