KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Public School District is set to hold an enhanced lockdown drill this week for all of it’s schools.
In a letter sent to parents on Friday, March 17, Interim Superintendent Cindy Green said the drills are part of the district’s annually required emergency safety drills and will happen the week of March 20.
The letter went onto say that parents and guardians should talk to their children about the importance and seriousness of the drills and that they are important step to make sure students are comfortable with emergency plans and can react quickly in a real emergency.
In speaking about the drills, Green said, “Although we hope to never have to use these strategies aside from practice and drills, it is important to know that the district will always err on the side of caution to protect our students and staff.”
The district says while age-appropriate lessons and conversations will happen in the classrooms, parents can view the lessons online at kalamazoopublicschools.com
