KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The weekend weather prompted organizers of the annual 5K Walk to End Homelessness to cancel the March 18 event.
Saturday’s walk, hosted by Housing Resources Incorporated, was scheduled to take place at Kalamazoo’s Growlers Stadium.
Event organizers say funds generated through the walk help HRI reach it’s goal of $110,000 dollars, with $15,000 of it still needing to be raised as of Saturday.
During the pandemic, HRI helped 24,000 people solve their housing crisis while they were homeless or near homeless, according to the director of community resources at HRI Galyn Barnum.
In addition, HRI provided $8.1 million in financial assistance for back rent, security deposits, and other housing needs, Barnum said. Donations can be made to Housing Resources Inc. until Friday, March 31 online.
