KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kzoo Parks now seeking applicants to join the Kalamazoo Youth Action Council.
The council was formed back in 2020 to help improve and expand programs and activities offered for youth in Kalamazoo. And they’re looking to fill 8 of its 13 member spots to help advise the staff at Kzoo Parks on planning events and programs.
Officials say that serving on the council not only gives those ages 13 to 18 a chance to make new friends and network, but to also develop leadership skills, learn about City government, as well as a chance to share their voice for the future of youth development in Kalamazoo.
The council meets bi-weekly and includes a stipend paid to those who attend at least 75% of the meetings for the year.
The council recently hosted a youth and teen Karaoke Game Night at Mayor’s Riverfront Park and are currently planning more events for the remainder of the year.
Youth can apply to join the council online at www.kzooparks.org/KYAC or by visiting the Kzoo Parks office at 251 Mills Street. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis and will remain open until spots are filled.
