DEPAUL UNIVERSITY (WKZO)– Millions of Americans are feverishly working away at their brackets, trying to guess who will win this year’s NCAA Basketball Tourney, but they are doomed to failure.
DePaul University mathematics professor Jeff Bergen says your chances of actually guessing the fates of all 64 teams is about as likely as your chances of winning both the Powerball and Mega-millions jackpots in the same week.
He says in numerical figures that’s 9.2-quintillion to one.
He says if you know a lot about Basketball, you can improve those odds…a little.
He says anyone who claims they have accomplished the perfect bracket is lying. Given the difficulty, he says it may never be done, at least not in our lifetimes.
The Big Ten has a number-one seed and a total of 7 teams in the big dance this year, including Michigan State.
Notre Dame is a #3 seed.
