GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) –Michigan Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley isn’t dismayed by poll numbers showing Proposal 1 on the May ballot with just 24-percent support.
Speaking in Grand Rapids this week, Calley says the polls showed a statewide proposal last year might not pass, but it did.
He noted it’s not like a candidate election, where there’s a two-year ramp up and people know what they need to know.
Calley says many people haven’t yet been engaged in the ballot question to raise the sales tax by one-percent to pay for roads, schools and local governments.
All the polls we have seen suggest that Proposal One is in trouble with voters with about a month to go before the vote.
We asked Portage State Senator Margaret O’ Brien whether she agrees with the Governor that there is no “plan B”.
She says there are a lot of plans, the issue is finding one that both houses and the Governor can agree upon.
It took three years to come up with this latest plan.
