KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — A Kalamazoo Man will get life without parole for killing his two year old son in a fit of rage because the toddler messed his pants.
It only took the jury a couple of hours to find Brian Roberts guilty on all charges, including felony murder. Roberts had only received custody of his children the month before because their mother had been busted in a stolen car with drugs and had been stripped of custody.
The defense had argued that it was all just an accident, but medical experts testified that Nehemia Dodd suffered the kind of injuries that usually don’t result from accidental falls.
Roberts had cut a deal with prosecutors to serve 18-years for second degree murder, but the Judge rejected the plea agreement, saying it was not sufficient punishment given the nature of the crime.
Apparently the Jury, which had a range of options, agreed.
