HAMTRAMCK (WKZO) — GM will be giving Volt production a short rest this summer…and that could impact some west Michigan firms that make parts for the Hybrid.
Instead of a two week model change over, they will keep the electric car out of production for a full month.
Inventories of the expensive electrics are building up at retailers lots as sales, which were already slow, have dropped another 48%.
The mathematics only work out with the car if gas prices are high. GM will be releasing a smaller version of the Volt this fall that will go further and cost less.
It could mean some slowdowns at west Michigan plants that make parts for the Volt.
The month long break will begin in late June and end in July.
