LANSING, MI — A U.S. Navy veteran from Lansing has been released from Russian prison after being held for nearly a year. Thirty-five-year-old Taylor Dudley was released yesterday to former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, who spent over the past six months working to get him free.
Dudley was arrested early last year after crossing from Poland into Kaliningrad, which is a Russian-controlled territory between Poland and Lithuania. The man had been in Poland for a music festival, according to a news release, but no reason was given for him crossing into Kaliningrad.
Richardson, the former UN Ambassador for the U.S., says negotiation teams raised the possibility of getting Dudley out in their meetings with Russian officials to try to free Brittney Griner, Paul Whelan, and Trevor Reed.
