KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education members are picking up the pieces as they recover from the loss of their top two administrators.
They began a series of team-building workshops with a facilitator Monday night to fix the internal and external damage caused by six weeks of turmoil. Trustees admitted that the sudden resignation of Superintendent Dr. Rita Raichouduri, and the termination of Operations Director Jim English had left them tired, angry, distrustful of each other and overwhelmed, but also hopeful.
Board President Patti Sholler-Barber says restoring public trust will be a big part of that effort.
Interim Superintendent Cindy Green says she has a plan to refocus the district that she will unveil at Thursday’s regular School Board meeting.
The Board of Education says they not only have to get the district back on track for the kids, but they were reminded last night that no candidate for Superintendent will want to work for a board with issues.
The Board will be meeting every other week for the next month and a half with the facilitator to work on their interpersonal skills, to prepare them for what could be a tough year ahead.
