Open weather across the Midwest last week was good for corn and soybean prospects. The trend this week is bringing more of the same for the maturation and harvesting of crops. Corn conditions show more favorability for the first time in weeks with 61 percent rated good to excellent, a one point bump up from earlier. Soybeans show a very slight improvement as we head for the final days of September. One exception to the positive USDA numbers comes in Iowa where pockets of drought along with fields destroyed by the August derecho cast a shadow over this year’s production totals.
