KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo teen accused of sexual assault and armed robbery over a year ago has pleaded guilty to half of the charges.
17-year-old Montell Parker pleaded guilty on December 16 to armed robbery and home invasion in Kalamazoo Circuit Court.
According to MLive on Tuesday, January 3, the first-degree criminal sexual conduct and unlawful imprisonment charges will be dismissed as part of the plea.
Court records say as a part of a plea agreement between the judge, prosecutor and defendant, Parker will not receive an minimum sentence higher than the lowest end of the guidelines.
The charges stem from when Parker, who was 16-years-old at the time, was accused of breaking into a Kalamazoo apartment around 1:30 a.m. on October 3rd, 2021, on Michigamme Woods Drive and sexually assaulting the woman who was home.
The woman testified during a preliminary examination that she was home alone when three people broke into her apartment. One male had a handgun with a green laser and threatened to shoot her. Someone asked her where the money was and she told them it was all in her wallet, which one person had.
Parker is scheduled to be sentenced Monday, January 23rd, and continues to be held in custody on a $500,000 bond.
