STURGIS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The victim of a fatal shooting at a motel in Sturgis has been identified by police.
32-year-old Jeremy Lampeart was found shot in the parking lot of the Country Hearth Inn and Suites around 6 p.m. Thursday, December 29 according to Sturgis Department of Public Safety.
The motel is located in the 1700 block of South Centerville Road and Fawn River Road.
Lampeart died from injuries at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Police say a person of interest in the alleged homicide was identified on Friday as well according to a Facebook post by the Sturgis Department of Public Safety.
Speaking with News Channel 3 on Friday, December 30, Chris Hubbard, a managing partner at the motel said that it happened really quickly, who also noted that the shooting in the rear parking lot was captured on security camera. He went onto say quote, “People started scattering and the face in the camera were faces I haven’t seen before,” end quote.
Authorities continue to believe the shooting to be an isolated incident and that there is no further threat to the public.
