CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke and his deputies are investigating a fatal car crash that took place on Dailey Road near Pokagon Highway. The crash occurred on Saturday, December 31 around 8:30 p.m.
Initial investigation showed that 57-year-old Trevor David Nelson of Edwardsburg, stopped his vehicle, halfway on the shoulder of the roadway and halfway in the southbound lane, to strap an appliance on top of the vehicle. 18-year-old Trevor Kyle Nelson, also of Edwardsburg, was in the roadway assisting in retrieving the appliance.
49-year-old Richard Burpee of Cassopolis, was driving south bound on Dailey Road, and crashed into the side of the vehicle in the roadway. Nelson was pronounced deceased on scene.
This crash remains under investigation.
Assisting agencies on scene were the Central Cass Fire Department, PrideCare Ambulance Service, and the Michigan State Police.
