KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In 2023, the City of Kalamazoo’s wastewater utilities department plans to try out a new technology that may not only save money, but limit the number of orange cones drivers see in the future.
Rather than cracking open roads and replacing leaky old sewer lines, a new process will make it possible to give them new life, pretty much the same way you line a trash bin with a plastic bag.
Utilities Director James Baker says they will be trying it out in the Millwood neighborhood this year, just to see if it really works.
He says it won’t work in every case, but they hope it’ll function well enough to save ratepayers millions over the long haul.
