DETROIT (WKZO) — Neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson is confirming that he plans to run for the GOP nomination, and will make a public announcement in Detroit today.
That’s if you don’t count the announcement he made to CBS Sunday.
In the interview, Carson said he wants to be “part of the equation,” and that’s why he is running.
Carson grew up in poverty in the Motor City and rose to become the Chief Pediatric Neurosurgeon at John Hopkins.
He has no political experience, and his off-the-cuff comments has cost him some support in recent weeks.
A polling of likely republican voters shows he beats Marco Rubio and Chris Christie but trails Paul Rand and Jeb Bush.
Pundits say the 63-year-old is getting into it late and finding financing may be his biggest problem.
