KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s School Trustees will have their work cut out for them in 2023 as they search for a new Superintendent. The unexpected resignation of Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri has put this task front and center.
Most of the trustees were also serving when she was hired, and so they know how it works. But it won’t be easy. Jeff Meuller, who facilitated Kalamazoo’s search for a new City Attorney says it was difficult to find Public Administrators, even before the pandemic.
Meuller, with the Michigan Municipal League, says the economy has added yet another barrier.
In the meantime, Former Assistant Superintendent Cindy Green will take over the top job on an interim basis. Board President Patti Sholler Barber says Green has their confidence, but it could be a bit bumpy.
Although it took them a year to find Dr. Raichoudhuri, board members say they may want to act more quickly. They say the best time to hunt for new Superintendents will be before the school year ends, which is when they say the best candidates will be looking to make career moves.
