KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — There was drama as Kalamazoo County School officials spent a white- knuckle evening watching the results come in for their special education millage.
At first they were trailing, and then they built a sizable lead and then the gap between success and failure began to shrink as the final precincts and absentee ballots were counted.
They ended up with a 700 vote victory out of over 40-thousand votes cast.
Kalamazoo Schools Supt. Michael Rice says it will help shore up the financial stability of all of the school districts in Kalamazoo County. They may need it if the state comes after school funding to fix the roads.
The money will be divided among the school districts in Kalamazoo County and help fund the special education programming provided for all school districts by K-RESA.
Also on local ballots in Kalamazoo County.
Ross Township voters approved a millage hike for improved fire protection by a vote of 812 to 558.
Climax Scotts Schools asked for and received approval for a routine 18-mill non-homestead renewal.
