BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) — Two men were shot when a birthday party in Battle Creek erupted in gunfire early Sunday morning, and police are still looking for the gunman.
It happened at a home in the 400 block of Garrison near Curtis at about 3 a.m. Battle Creek police were close enough to hear the gunfire because they have been called out to the home on a complaint and were keeping an eye on it.
Responding officers found party-goers fleeing the scene, and a 25-year-old in the backyard with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to Kalamazoo for emergency surgery.
A second victim, a 24-year-old appeared at the hospital in a private vehicle. Both are expected to recover.
Detectives are tracking down and interviewing people who were at the party to figure out what took place.
