LANSING (WKZO) — A Michigan lawmaker has once again proposed legislation that would compensate wrongly convicted Michiganders for their time in prison.
It would pay the wrongly convicted about 60-thousand dollars for every year they are unjustly imprisoned.
Senator Steve Bieda has introduced the legislation 6 times and it always fell victim to tight budgets.
He is hoping the mood has improved, especially since the total cost of the program, under a million a year, could be less than dealing with the lawsuits that now result from unlawful imprisonment.
Bieda has also lined up bi-partisan support this time.
