DETROIT (WKZO) — It’s a milestone of a sort for the GM Ignition Compensation fund. They have approved their 100th death claim.
So far they have also approved compensation for 172 injury victims, with 626 cases still pending review. GM only admitted 13-deaths were caused by the faulty ignitions.
CBS news tracked down the family of the first victim. The sons of Jean Averill are not happy with the automaker.
Mark and Sam Averill say GM redacted her name from the first public report, and if a reporter had not approached them, they might never have known.
He says what they want is an apology and perhaps some GM executives going to jail.
They have until July 19th to accept GM’s proposed settlement or turn it down and take their chances with a lawsuit, but since a federal judge ruled that the New GM can’t be held responsible for the liabilities of the Old GM, chances of success in court are not good.
