DOWAGIAC (WKZO) — Cass County Deputies are investigating a homicide.
A woman was shot to death in the 24-thousand block of Flanders St. just East of the City of Dowagiac last evening.
Deputies received a 9-1-1 call for help at around 9:40 p.m. Arriving deputies spotted a 9-year-old girl coming out of the home, followed by a man.
Neither were injured and both surrendered. Deputies say there had apparently been a verbal argument between the man and the female victim that ended in gunfire.
The victim, 42-year-old Laura Jean Stinebeck was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary reports say she was shot several times.
The alleged gunman is reportedly her husband. Their daughter is being cared for by family friends.
Forensic crews spent the night recovering data and evidence from the scene of the shooting.
The suspect is in custody and charges are pending.
