PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — State Representatives Christine Morse (D-Texas Township) and Julie Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statements in response to the announcement on Wednesday, December 7 of the $500,000 in grant funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to go towards improvements at the Lexington Green Park in Kalamazoo County.
“I want to send my sincere thanks to the governor and the DNR — their advocacy for Michigan’s outdoor spaces helps to keep our state healthy and beautiful,” said Morse. “Improvements to Lexington Green Park will give our community members more reason to get out to enjoy bike paths, sports facilities and nature trails. These opportunities and spaces are very important because having clean, appealing recreational areas increase the physical and psychological well-being for our residents. I look forward to getting out there myself.”
“I’m glad to see Lexington Green Park will be getting funding for improvements,” said Rogers. “Parks and the outdoors are important to both mental and physical health. Investing in our green spaces will help attract and keep younger families in the Kalamazoo area.”
