KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Portage Public Safety has released one of the dashcam videos from that wild chase in Portage that ended in the police involved shooting of Shawn Pelletier and his brother.
It shows that the small red car that Shawn and Aaron Pelletier were using to evade police may have been engaged in gun fire at three separate times, as they were forced by a swarm of squad cars into an apartment complex off Milham Road and cornered. Its not clear who is firing at whom.
It also suggests that there were a lot more than just 9 shots fired as early witnesses claimed.
Pelletier was wanted on a trespass warrant because he had been evading eviction from a home in Portage owned by his mother.
He was also a survivalist with an arsenal of weapons, and was wearing an ammunition belt when he tried to confront officers with an assault rifle.
Lt. Dale Hinz says Interviews have been completed and detectives are awaiting autopsy and ballistic test results.
There has been no word whatsoever about the disposition of the officers involved in the shooting.
Usually they are put on paid leave or desk duty until a shooting review is completed, but no information about how many there were, which departments they worked for, or their current assignments has been released.
