James McCann drove in two as Detroit has taken the first two games to improve to 26-and-17.
Alfredo Simon picked up his fifth win, allowing two unearned runs in seven innings.
George Springer had two of Houston’s four hits and drove in a run.
Colin McHugh fell to 5-and-2 after giving up three runs across seven innings.
The Astros are 27-and-16.
