PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Pfizer, Inc. announced on Monday, December 5 that it will invest another $750 million in its Modular Aseptic Processing (MAP) Phase 2 project at the Pfizer Global Supply campus in Portage, creating approximately 300 additional new jobs.
This investment follows the March 2021 groundbreaking of Phase 1 of the MAP facility (a $465 million investment with the creation of 450 new jobs) and the May 2022 announcement to expand production of Paxlovid (a $120 million investment with the creation of 250 new jobs).
In 2018, the Portage City Council approved a PA-198 tax abatement for the MAP project, Pfizer with a 50% break on taxes for 15 years.
“Pfizer’s continued investment in our community has positive effects throughout our region, greatly impacting our housing market, school enrollment, commercial corridor, and population growth,” said Portage Mayor Patricia M. Randall. “We are thrilled that Portage is Pfizer’s number one manufacturing site in the world, putting Portage on the global map for all the right reasons.”
The facility in Portage employs 3,000, and generates an estimated $3 billion annual economic impact in west Michigan.
