KALMAZOO (WKZO) — Friends, family and total strangers remembered former Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata on Saturday, taking advantage of a near perfect day for a 70-mile motorcycle run and fundraiser sponsored by the Sons of Malta motorcycle club.
The number of bikers participating in this year’s EZ Memorial Ride was smaller than in previous years following last years allegations of funding irregularities, and the resignation of the former President of the club.
The money raised by the event will be deposited into a growing trust fund for Officer Zapata’s children. Officer Zapata was killed on duty four years ago.
