PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Portage is getting ready for it’s Traditional Holiday and Tree Lighting Ceremony this coming Saturday, December 3. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the City Centre Mayor’s treat and will kick off with the winner of the “I Love Portage” essay contest reading their essay, followed by the lighting of the tree.
The public will also have the chance to sing carols while strolling down Bicentennial Trail behind a horse-drawn wagon with Santa and Mrs. Claus to Celery Flats at 7335 Garden Lane.
Children will be able to share their Christmas wishes with Santa at Stuart Manor or mail their letters to the North Pole inside the Schoolhouse.
Also featured will be ice sculpture demonstrations, animals to pet at the OsborneKlein-sponsored petting farm, chances to create a holiday craft, and enjoy the Proclamation Brass Band and Portage Northern Choir as they perform traditional holiday favorites.
Parking will available at the Celery Flats Historical Area, Portage Zhang Senior Center, Portage Parks & Recreation, and Portage City Hall.
Organizers encourage attendees to bring non-perishable food and clothing donations to benefit the Portage Community Center.
