STRAITS OF MACKINAC (WKZO) — Some say it’s the best view in Michigan but it takes some friends in high places to get to the top of the South Pier of the Mackinac Bridge.
The viewing platform is about 500 feet off the surface of the water.
State Rep. Dave Maturen and State Senator Margaret O’Brien made the journey to the top. Maturen is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee.
They didn’t have to climb 50 stories of stairs, there is a small 2- person elevator that takes visitors up most of the way, but the last 30 feet requires a climb up a steel ladder through holes cut in the steelwork.
It’s quite a view. Check out these pictures.
