BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Mother Nature turned into a real Grinch over the weekend as the winter storm which socked some areas with almost two feet of snow forced organizers to postpone the Battle Creek Christmas Parade.
The announcement was made on Friday as the City of Battle Creek announced a Snow Emergency.
Organizers Stephanie and Zach Cornish said on the parade’s Facebook page they decided not to hold the parade on Saturday because, “The Harper Creek Optimist Club is concerned about the safety of our community and understand that police and public works employees need to focus their time on keeping our community safe and roads plowed this weekend, rather than worrying about all of the extra parade support they provide to us each year.”
They said the Parade Committee will be working throughout the weekend to determine if they can reschedule for a date in early December and will make an official announcement as soon as possible, but no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
The Cornishs went on to say, “We thank you for your support and patience — in no known parade history, has this situation ever occurred to completely cancel the parade due to weather! Rest assured, if we can make it happen still in 2022, we will! We know so many businesses and organizations have worked hard on their entries.”
