KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Despite the statewide unemployment rate edging up in October, the jobless rate stayed steady in many area counties.
The unemployment rate for Kalamazoo County for October was 3.7%, the same as September 2022. Allegan County’s rate stayed steady at 3.2% and Van Buren County’s rate held steady at 4.3%.
The rate in Calhoun County went up from 4.7% to 5.0% in October, while Berrien County’s went up from 4.2% to 4.3%. St. Joseph County’s rate dropped from 4.1% in September to 3.7% in October.
Michigan’s unemployment rate for October rose a tenth of a percent to 4.2%.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says employment statewide was down 10,000. Associate director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Wayne Rourke says the uptick in unemployment was “a minor workforce reduction over the month.”
The national jobless rate rose two-tenths of a percent for October to 3.7%.
