LANSING (WKZO) — One day after the State Senate approved a measure allowing faith based adoption agencies to reject gays and any other applicants who may not be in conformance with their religious beliefs, the Governor has quickly signed the bill.
They apparently wanted it in place before the Supreme Court issues their decision on same-sex marriage.
State Rep. John Hoadley says it’s currently legal to discriminate against gays…and this turns that into state policy.
West Michigan State Senator Rick Jones says faith-based agencies must refer couples they reject on religious grounds to other agencies.
The ACLU is expected to challenge the measure, because it does allow an organizations funded by taxpayers dollars to deny access to certain groups.
