KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s been said that Kalamazoo County voters never met a millage they didn’t like. It appears they found one yesterday, defeating a county request to rollback the Headlee Amendment.
The rollback would have allowed the county to raise home assessments beyond the rate of inflation, which would have increased property tax bills for most homeowners. Voters rejected it 49%-40%.
The other 11 percent apparently were undecided, or forgot to flip their ballots over.
The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioner has already approved next year’s budget on the assumption that the additional revenue would not be available. They will meet later this month to finalize the apportionment roll.
