KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Data released on Thursday, October 27 by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget indicated that 79 counties showed unemployment rate reductions between August and September 2022, with jobless rates falling in 67 counties since September of 2021.
Locally around Southwest Michigan, the number of unemployed fell by 9.7% over the month in Calhoun County with a total decrease of 15.2% over the year. While the number of employed fell slightly by 0.3% over the month, the yearly figure showed an increase of 3.4%.
For Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties combined, the number of unemployed decreased by 7.2% over the past month and went down by 11.1% over the year. An increase in the number of employed was seen both over last month and year, up by 0.6% for the month, and up by 4.0% for the year.
Ottawa County stood fourth among the 83 counties in September at 3%, down one tenth of a percentage point from August, while Allegan County was tied for seventh at 3.2%, down two tenths from the month before.

As of September of 2022, Livingston County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.1% while Roscommon County came in with the highest figure at 7.7%.
