ALLEGAN COUNTY (WKZO) — The Allegan County Marine Unit had a busy weekend, rescuing people from the Kalamazoo River.
Yesterday alone, they had to save seven people who got into trouble, four in Kayaks and 3 in a canoe.
Deputies say the swift water may prove to be dangerous to novices and underwater hazards could prove dangerous to even the most experienced paddlers.
They say if you do go out, file a boating plan or let someone know what you are doing, take a cell phone in a water proof case and always wear a life jacket.
They would prefer it if everyone would just stay off the river until water levels subside.
Anyone attempting a rescue from shore should stay out of the water and try using long branches or ropes.
