KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — 43-year-old Theresa Petto has now been formally charged with open murder and felony murder for the shooting death of 25-year old Rachel Drafta and ordered held without bond.
Portage Public Safety asked for upgraded charges police went seeking a murder warrant from the Prosecutor and got two against, and a total of three Felon Firearms charges to boot.
Senior Deputy Chief Daniel Mills says she will be charged with open murder and felony murder.
The open murder charge could mean a prison term of anything up to life without parole. A conviction on Felony Murder means mandatory life without parole.
The one unexplained charge is Attempted Unlawful imprisonment. Mills would not go into detail, but court documents reveal that Petto left writings in her car detailing her plans to abduct and kill Drafta.
They say Petto was jealous because Drafta was dating her ex-boyfriend, and confronted her in her driveway last Wednesday morning. That’s when the shooting occured.
