PORTAGE (WKZO) — A Portage man who allegedly stole an ambulance making a medical call in the 26-hundred block of E. Heverly Drive just before 2 p.m. Sunday, is sitting in the Kalamazoo County Jail this morning.
It was a crime of opportunity, ill conceived and not very bright.
One of the paramedics was able to get into the back of the ambulance as the 23-year-old suspect drove off, and headed straight down a dead-end street.
After two blocks the suspect ran out of road, stopped the ambulance and fled on foot.
He was found by police soon after in a neighbor’s pool. He is charged with unlawfully driving away an auto and resisting and obstructing.
